A Day in the Life of an International Student

8:40 – Going to School

Before classes start, students study for the JLPT and prepare for short quizzes. They make sure to be in their seats five minutes before class begins.

9:00 – Classes

At CLA, lessons are easy to understand because teachers use pictures and illustrations. Students also practice conversation during class, which helps them improve their speaking skills in Japanese.

12:30 – After Classes

After class, students go home by bicycle. Since there are supermarkets and a drugstore next to the school, some students stop to shop on their way home.

15:00 – Part-time Job

Many students work part-time about five days a week at restaurants. They learn how to take orders and serve food from Japanese coworkers. Recently, some students have also learned how to handle cash registers and answer phone calls.

19:00 – After Work

Students usually work about four hours on weekdays. After work, they talk with coworkers about food from their home countries and daily life. They enjoy a friendly and supportive workplace.

19:30 – Dinner

Students cook their own meals at home. To save money, they look for affordable supermarkets and buy ingredients carefully. Sometimes they go out with friends to eat ramen, which is very popular in Japan and loved by many students.

20:00 – Study Time

In the evening, students study Japanese while doing housework and also use mobile apps and flashcards they create themselves. Many are currently preparing for the JLPT. After studying, they talk with family and friends by phone.
